I'm having a bit of an issue erasing my disk image in recovery mode.
There is an Apple Disk Image that the Base System appears to be sitting in, however, that I believe is the disk image for the whole OS? In the tutorials I've been looking at, this disk image is 'secure erased', but just like the Base System that appears to sit inside of it, the erase button is greyed out (even when booting from USB like before). It's in the lower-right corner of the dialog box. The wipe process will begin. The time to erase your disk will vary based on disk size, the amount of data stored, and whether your chose an encrypted format. The newer APFS is best for solid-state drives, and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) is best for older, mechanical hard drives. Scheme: Choose GUID Partition Map. Next, click Erase and after Disk Utility. Open Disk Utility to begin the disk erasing process. Select the Internal storage disk in the left-hand menu. It will be called Apple SSD on recent Macs. Click on the Erase button at the top of the Disk Utility, this brings up our disk formatting options. MacintoshHD is the default disk name in macOS, disk format required is Mac OS Extended.
When I am logged in to my account and go to my Disk Utility, it only shows my Internal SSD drive. When I go into recovery mode, Disk Utility shows an External disk image. I wanted to erase this disk image, however the 'Erase' option is greyed out, so it doesn't give me the option.
